Rooted
Great schools need educators who can afford to live in the communities they serve
Oakland's educators dedicate their careers to helping young people build their futures. They should be able to build their own futures here, too. Rooted, a program of The Oakland Fund, creates new pathways to housing affordability for public school educators.
Affordable housing helps educators stay. Educators who stay build stronger school communities. Stronger school communities help students thrive.
When educators can afford to live where they teach, students succeed
Here is some of our impact to date:
Discounted Housing Marketplace
Rooted partners with housing providers to make apartments available to educators with exclusive discounts on rents via the Rooted Housing Marketplace, often with additional savings on security deposits and fees.
Rooted-Owned Housing
Rooted acquires apartment buildings and preserves homes for educators, and was the first nonprofit program in the country to acquire housing dedicated to this essential population.
Financial Wellness
Educators in partner districts can access free one-on-one financial coaching through TrustPlus, with support on credit, student loans, budgeting, and other financial goals.
